Collaboration with eSMARTT Will Evaluate Refrigerated Trailer Users’ Choices

OCT 21, 2021 • Arlington, Virginia – Today, the American Trucking Associations’ Technology & Maintenance Council announces the start of its second study on the use and adoption of intelligence products and services in the refrigerated transportation sector.

“Everyone wants to know that their food and medicines are safe and effective at the time and point of use” said TMC Executive Director Robert Braswell, “and this research will show how leading carriers are using technology to ensure safe and efficient deliveries.”

This is the second survey report TMC and eSMARTT have collaborated on, the first was released June 30 and centered on the trailer rental and lease market. The full report is available for purchase here.

The first report identified refrigerated carriers as early adopters of technology driven by the need to track temperatures and the high cost of failures. The final report for refrigerated carriers will be available for the spring, annual meeting of the Council in Orlando.

The safety of food and pharmaceutical distribution is paramount. Technology is already providing detailed tracking from the field to the home in this important segment of the trucking industry. Both the federal government and nation-wide retailers are driving innovation to ensure deliveries are completed successfully while overcoming any challenges associated with equipment maintenance, shipping issues, traffic conditions, weather, and driver availability.

As with the first report, some key findings will be available in a free executive summary and the full report will be available for purchase. Additional webinars and presentations will be made available after the release. Companies wishing to participate in the effort are encouraged to send an email to tmc@trucking.org.
