TMC Fleet Members Top Maintenance Concerns Shift Considerably from Spring 2025 to Fall 2025
Aftertreatment Listed as Number One Top Five Concern,According to Latest Survey
The things that keep fleet managers up at night shifted considerably through the end of December 2025, according to a spring survey conducted by ATA’s Technology & Maintenance Council’s (TMC) — at least when it comes to TMC fleet members’ top maintenance worries.
More than 400 TMC fleet members were asked to share their current top five fleet maintenance concerns, based on a wide-ranging list of 85 possible choices from which to select. Of those responding, the following were identified as the top reported concerns in descending order:
- The top maintenance issue identified in the Fall 2025 Survey was Aftertreatment.
- Cost Containment was identified as number two, rising from number five in the previous survey.
- Diagnostics was identified as the number three maintenance issue facing fleets, falling from number one in the previous survey.
- Root Cause Analysis was identified by fleets as number four.
- Labor Rates were identified as number five.
Root Cause Analysis & Labor Rates made the top five for the first time since TMC began conducting its Top 5 survey. Technician Shortage, Tires, and Technician-related concerns dropped off the top 5 list completely despite being in the top 5 last quarter.
Reliability & Technician Retention just missed the top five coming in at sixth place (tie). Other concerns mentioned in the top 10 included: Advance Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS); Inflation (Parts, Oil, Fuel, Equipment); New Technology Challenges; Nuclear Verdicts/Litigation; Outsourcing; Technician Shortage; and Technician Staffing.
In the Spring of 2025, members said their top five concerns were:
1. Diagnostics
2. Technician Shortage
3. Tires
4. Technician Staffing & Technician Training (tie)
5. Cost Containment & Technician Retention (tie)
