Ten TMC member fleet and service provider members responded to TMC’s “Fleet & Service Provider Average Standard Repair Time (SRT) Survey,” which was administered in the first half of 2025. The purpose of the study was to aid in establishing baseline repair times that will improve shop productivity and profitability. This is the sixth year that TMC has conducted the survey, providing a comparison of year-to-year SRT data.

The survey was based on Vehicle Maintenance Reporting Standards (VMRS) making it easier to aggregate repair times. Participants were asked to provide the time in hours to install specific parts or to perform needed labor in their facilities, not the rates that participants necessarily charge their customers. Data presented in this report is based on the labor description and the corresponding VMRS Code Keys for each task using VMRS Code Keys 15 (Work Accomplished) and 33 (Component Code).

The data collected for 2025 mostly showed decreases in the times of performing repairs in many categories, mirroring the data collected in 2023 which also saw improvements in most repair tasks.  For 2025, “R&R Clutch Assembly ” was reported to be the most labor intensive task — increasing from the previous year by 7.89 percent. In the top 10 least labor intensive tasks list for 2025,  “R&R Wiper Blade Assembly ” topped the list but was unchanged from 2023.

Seventy-five (75) tasks decreased in time to complete task; 27 increased; one was unchanged.

Two new repair tasks were added to the list of top 10 labor tasks by longest length of repair time this year:
     •    R&R Power Take-Off (PTO) Assembly, Complete
     •    R&R Water Pump

Two repair tasks fell off the list of top 10 labor tasks by longest length of repair time in 2025:

     •    R&R Wiper Arm Linkage Assembly
     •    R&R Brake Drum, Per Wheel – Drive Axle
